Biographical Note
Ó Colláin (Ó Coileáin, Collins), Seán (John) (c.1858-?): Seán Ó Colláin was born in Park, Corrandulla, county Galway, around 1858. He received primary education at the De la Salle Brothers’ school in Corrandulla. Like his father, he was a farmer. He was living with his family in Park during the censuses of 1901 [http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000814722/] and 1911 [http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002452076/]. He and his wife, Mary, whom he married around 1888, had had nine children by 1911, but only seven survived. Folklore collector Liam Mac Coisdealbha collected material from him in 1938 when he was about 80 years of age. He got very many of his stories from his father. Further folkloric material collected from him is available in the National Folklore Collection, UCD.
