Biographical Note
Brún (de Brún, Browne), Séamus (James) (1911-2003): Séamus Brún was born in Cornamona, county Galway, on October 1, 1911. He went to primary school in Cornamona and won a scholarship to Coláiste Chonnacht, Toormakeady, county Mayo, where he qualified as a teacher. He taught in county Sligo until 1944, and in Roscommon from 1944 to 1977. He was a member of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (serving as president 1970-3), of Coiste Oireachtas na Gaeilge, of Comhairle Raidió na Gaeltachta and of Fianna Fáil. He became a Senator in 1977. He was a member of the Cultural and Educational Panel 1982-3, and of Coiste na Gaeilge in the Houses of the Oireachtas. He was awarded Gradam an Phiarsaigh in 1993, as well as Gradam an Oireachtais and Gradam Chomhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in 2002. He married Bríd Ní Eadhra in 1944. They had two sons and one daughter. He died on March 5, 2003 in Limerick Regional Hospital. He was buried in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea. See further: Ainm.ie at http://www.ainm.ie/Bio.aspx?ID=1535.
