(...) an t-athair leis na seirbhísigh, "An chulaith éadaigh ab fhearr (...) cuir uimig é. Fáinne cuir[1] ar a láimh. Bróga ar a chosaibh. An gamhain ramhar a thabhairt isteach. É a mharú. Ithimist é agus bímis sóch. (...) An mac so do dh'imigh uaim, cailleadh é. Maraí-... Bhí marbh. Tá sé beo. Cailleadh é agus fuarthas é."

Bhí an mac ba shine amuigh ar an bpáirc agus tháini' sé chun an tí. D'airigh sé an ceol agus an rince. Ghlaoigh sé ar cheann des na seirbhísigh.

Translation

The father said (?) to his servants, "Put the best suit of clothes (...) on him. Put a ring on his finger. Shoes on his feet. Bring in the fatted calf. Kill it. Let us eat it and be merry. This son who left me, he was lost. He was kill-... He was dead. He is alive. He was lost and is found."

The eldest son was out in the field and he came to the house. He heard the music and the dancing. He called one of the servants.
