Bhí fear agus bhí trí deirfiúraí aige. Agus bhain siad páirc talamh agus chuir siad arbhar ann anuraidh agus bhain siad é i mbliana. Roinn siad é a réir iomaire agus iomaire, agus bhí iomaire corr ann.

Translation
There was a man and he had three sisters. And they prepared a field and they sowed corn in it last year and they cut it this year. They divided it ridge by ridge, and there was an odd ridge.
"This is mine," said Eugene Butty.
"It's mine," said the Bent Old Hag.
"It's mine," said Sheenum Shawnum... Sheenum Shawnum.
"It's mine," said Teenum hawnum.
They then divided it... They cut it together. And they divided it stook and stook and there was an odd stook.
"This is mine," said Eugene Butty.
"It's mine," said the Bent Old Hag.
"It's mine," said Sheenum Shawnum.
"It's mine," said Teenum Tawnum.
They divided it sheaf by sheaf then, and there was an odd sheaf.
"This is mine," said Eugene Butty.

"It's mine," said Teenum Tawnum.
They divided it stalk by stalk and there was an odd stalk.
"This is mine," said Eugene Butty.

"It's mine," said Teenum Tawnum.
They threshed... They threshed it and divided it grain by grain, and there was no odd grain and they were all happy.
Commentary
This is a variant of a story that usually concerns several people arguing over the division of land, sheafs of corn and finally a single grain, which they pursue into a river or down a bog hole, which causes them to lose their lives. It was recorded in a number of places around the country in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including several versions from county Kerry and one from county Roscommon.
